After listening to two ancient White people bicker incessantly about how to run this damned country, let’s play a little game!
The idea: Choose a carmaker of your choice. Google it, and go to Images. Take the first two cars (exterior shots only) that show up, left to right top to bottom, and post them below. Do you think they accurately represent the company? Let’s try it. I’ll start.
Volvo
An S6o and an XC90, both from the past two years. No RWD goodness, or even transverse fives or sixes. Not so sure if that’s the best representation of Volvo as a whole, but it certainly shows us where it’s going.
What will you Google? There’s everything from BMW to Holden!

Please leave a comment, I’m waiting for my oppo authorship.
Oh and yeah, I choose Audi!
And personally, those 2 photos represent the company perfectly. Except, they should make the cars out of burning money.

The secret is to pick a manufacturer that’s been dead for decades on end. Cord seems pretty accurate.

CX-5:
The previous Mazda2 had a cheap and cheerful reputation that fit well with Mazda’s image at the time, although Mazda’s now trying to push a bit upmarket. The CX-5, while not bad for its segment from what I hear, isn’t the kind of car that I think of when I think of Mazda. I’d have picked something like a MX-5 and a Mazda3, myself...

And there’s the entire Peel model line. That sums that up quite nicely.

MAN:
Looks like the corner of a Jeep Compass and a few other minivans/crossovers further back:
And a MAN TGE (rebadged VW Crafter) with something heavier duty in the background:
So, the only thing that actually represents MAN is in the background of the second shot.

Post 2010, I like the LFA, the LC, and the butt of the RC F.

Awesome!
I got a Steam account recently and have been glued to this for a while. Very realistic and relaxing game, nothing like listening to some music and watching the scenery go by.
One question though, what mods do you have installed? I haven’t got many so far so I’m interested to know what the good ones are.

Indeed, nothing beats some Copland as you unironically watch the Swedish countryside go by...
Ooooh, mods! First off, if you don’t have Jazzycat’s packs installed then you haven’t truly experienced ETS2. There’s the traffic packs...
They add countless new models (some ripped of Forza and elsewhere) as well as add badges to the existing generic traffic cars...
Which add tons more variety as well as change the standard generic companies to real brands (DHL Ikea, etc.)
Finally, the must-have map mod is Promods (which is where my original pictures up above were taken);
it requires the Scandinavia DLC and Going East! (and now France DLC), but gives you the following destinations, all for a free download (create a profile and click “compatibility” to get the right one for your version number if you aren’t running the latest 1.26.x:

Moreover, it is fully compatible and developed in conjunction with Rusmap (make sure you tick the “I have Promods” boxes when installing) which gives you most of Western Russia from Belarus (not Russia) to Moscow.
Rusmap is less polished than Promods but offers a much “grittier” experience, with roads like the ones pictured and a definitively Soviet feel to it with Ladas on the side of the roads and random Communist statues.
So there you have it, my top must-have mods: Jazzycat Traffic, Jazzycat Trailers, Promods, and Rusmap. There aren’t any definitive truck mods that I have to have since many go by the wayside after several versions therefore breaking a savegame whereas Jazzycat, Promods, and Rusmap are usually updated within a week of game update (sooner for Promods since they develop alongside SCS).
Also, you’ve probably heard of TSM (Truck Sim Map) which gives you all of Spain and Southern Europe into the Mediterranean and North Africa. My advice: don’t try to use this as a career map. It gets updated haphazardly and the build quality is scattershot, with some areas excellently executed with others quite bland. Best thing to do is use this as a hacked account (give yourself infinite money, perfectly legal since it’s a one-player game) and use it to test truck mods and the like. I find it doesn’t discourage me from having a career mode with Promods and Rusmap since TSM is so lacking at some points that you long for a more realistic experience.
